Jury
declares docs not at fault
SCRANTON
-- A Lackawanna County jury decided Thursday that two
doctors were not negligent in their treatment of a Dickson
City woman for an Achilles tendon problem.
The
verdict against Theresa Pavlowski, 440 Boulevard Ave.,
was the 15th consecutive time that a county jury has
found in favor of the defendant in a medical malpractice
trial, according to a check of court records.
Drs.
J. Teig Port and Harry Schmaltz, who were represented
by attorney Paul Wylam, were accused of failing to find
that Ms. Pavlowski had a ruptured tendon while they
were treating her during the winter of 1993-94.
During
the trial before Judge Terrence Nealon, they presented
an expert witness who said the woman's tendon was never
ruptured.
Ms.
Pavlowski, who was represented by attorney Melanie Naro,
said the rupture was discovered by her physical therapist
in April 1994.
